About Us

Our Values

Empathy

We know how anxious couples often feel about the state of their finances, and this is especially true when you aren’t seeing eye-to-eye with your spouse. We will always put ourselves in your shoes and never shame or blame you about the state of your finances.

Integrity

We have a legal obligation to put your financial interest ahead of our own. We don’t sell financial or investment products. We will always be honest with you and provide unbiased financial advice.

Balance

We believe that saving for retirement is important… but we also think that too many financial planners prioritize retirement saving at the expense of other goals. We help couples find the right balance between achieving their short-term financial goals and their long term retirement dreams.

Proactivity

We look out for your blind spots, and help you avoid mistakes by looking a few steps ahead. We help you anticipate life’s transitions and help you prepare financially for them.

Education

We’ll help you understand the ins and outs of personal finance in a way that’s tailored to your family’s needs.

Accountability

We help you follow through on your best financial intentions.

Bill's Professional Background

Pacesetter Planning Financial Planning for Millennial Couples

We Believe...

Money can strengthen your marriage

There are plenty of statistics out there that show that money is one of the main sources of marital fights and can be a cause of divorce… but we believe that the opposite is true, too. If you can learn to manage money effectively with your spouse, not only will it lead to good financial outcomes – it will make your marriage stronger, too.

Financial Planning for Couples Should Be Holistic and Interdisciplinary

We apply best practices from the domains of financial planning and financial therapy.

Customized advice based on proven principles

We know what works and what doesn’t… but we also know that every couple needs a financial strategy that works with their specific money habits, attitudes, and values.

The Story Behind Pacesetter Planning

Back in 2016, I quit my job, got married, and started Pacesetter Planning within a 90 day time period.

To say that quitting my job and building a business from scratch made my first year of marriage stressful would be an understatement.

I started Pacesetter Planning in 2016 because I wanted to help millennials conquer their student loan debt, buy houses, and achieve their goals. At a time where most financial planning firms focused on working with retirees or people with millions of dollars to invest, I wanted to help people become wealthy – and to help them use money as a tool to live the life of their dreams.

But as I talked to more and more engaged and newlywed couples, I began to see just how hard it was for couples to get on the same financial page and make the transition from managing money separately before marriage to managing money together.

I struggled with this, too. The anxiety and stress of starting a business from scratch during the first year of our marriage while we were deciding where to plant our roots as a family made it tough for my wife and I to make good long term financial decisions together.

I know what it feels like to have anxiety that we would never achieve our most important financial goals because of choices we’ve made in the past. I know what it feels like to juggle multiple financial decisions and feel paralyzed by fear of making the wrong choice. I know what it feels like to dread bringing up a financial choice we have ahead of us, because of how likely it is that the conversation will end in a fight.

I didn’t become the expert in marriage and money issues by accident – I’m here because I learned a lot of lessons the hard way a few years back. I’ve been in your shoes before – and I’m here to tell you from the future that there is a way to use your money to create the lives you love – together.

I developed my marriage-centered financial planning process to help couples put their marriage at the center of their financial decisions. I help couples work together – in a way that honors each of their financial attitudes and values – to achieve their life goals. My process hasn’t just changed the lives of couples all across the country – it’s changed my own marriage, too.
